Leftover mustard might be the most abandoned condiment in vacation rental fridges everywhere. It's hard to find in small sizes, easy to overbuy, and somehow always half full by the time you're packing up. Tiny Cupboards offers small-sized options, available a la carte or in our Essentials Kits, so you only bring what you'll actually use on your trip.

But if you do find yourself mid-trip with a jar of something good, here are a few simple ways to use it up before you go.

MEAL IDEAS

Simple Vinaigrette

Mix 2 teaspoons of dijon mustard with 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice, a pinch of salt, and sprinkle in some herbs if you have them. It's very modifiable but so simple you might not ever buy a bottle of dressing again.

This easy turkey burger recipe adds mustard and apple for a light, delicious flavor. Pairs well with rosemary fries. See the full recipe here.

Skip the egg next time you're making chicken meatballs and use 2 teaspoons of dijon mustard as your binder instead. It's a simple swap that adds a ton of flavor, and it's been my go-to ever since.

Mix together ground chicken, the mustard, 1oz of crumbled feta, 1 teaspoon of salt, half a chopped onion, and some fresh herbs. If you have leftover oatmeal, sprinkle some in for bulk, or grab panko breadcrumbs from the bulk section. Or skip the filler altogether.

There are a lot of tasty honey mustard marinade recipes out there, but this one from NYT for their Honey Mustard Chicken Thighs is my favorite. Tip: the recipe recommends marinating for up to 3 hours, but we usually forget and only have about a half hour. It still holds the flavor well.

Pretzels and mustard are a classic pairing that's stood the test of time. Store-bought pretzels work great, but if you have a little time to bake, homemade pretzel bites are fun and delicious. Dip straight into mustard, or blend in a little hot sauce and honey for something extra. Hip Mama Place's spicy mustard dip is one of our favorites.
