An Easy Turkey Burger Recipe the Whole Family Loves

I've always been a fan of turkey burgers and stumbled onto this recipe in a health newsletter years ago. I've tweaked it over time, and it's become one of my favorites, including a go-to dinner option when my daughter has friends over for a sleepover.

This recipe is a modified version of Turkey-Apple with Cider Glazed Onions from the Tufts Nutrition Letter.

This easy turkey burger recipe adds mustard and apple for a light, delicious flavor. Pairs well with rosemary fries.

The original recipe calls for any apple, but we recommend Granny Smith. The tartness balances the mustard nicely. One tip: choose a smaller apple. Too much apple can make the burgers fall apart on the grill.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey

  • 1 small Granny Smith apple, grated or finely chopped

  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard

  • 1/4 cup fresh or dried herbs

  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos

  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Use two forks to gently mix everything together. This keeps the meat from getting overworked, so the burgers stay light instead of dense.

Shape into 4 patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

Cook on a grill or skillet over medium heat, about 8 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook for 6 more minutes, until cooked through (165°F internally).
